The United Kingdom has announced a £7 million contribution to support food and nutrition aid in Afghanistan as the country braces for harsh winter conditions, according to UK special envoy Richard Lindsay.

Lindsay said the funding aims to help pre-position essential food and nutrition supplies in remote and vulnerable areas where access becomes increasingly difficult during the colder months.

“On World Food Day, the UK is stepping up support for Afghan communities,” Lindsay said. “This funding will help save lives this winter by ensuring food and nutrition supplies reach those in hard-to-reach areas before the worst of the cold sets in.”

The announcement comes as humanitarian agencies warn of worsening food insecurity across Afghanistan, where millions face acute hunger exacerbated by economic challenges, natural disasters, and limited humanitarian access.
