A public hospital employee in northeastern Takhar province “was beaten by a Taliban member” after allegedly refusing to carry out an unlawful order, local sources said.

The sources identified the Taliban member as Sardar, an associate of Nooruddin Omar, commander of the Taliban’s 209 Al-Fath Corps’ First Infantry Brigade.

They said Sardar is currently serving as head of oversight at the provincial health department.

The hospital worker was identified as Niaz.

Local residents criticized the assault, saying violations of citizens’ rights and harassment by Taliban members must stop.

Taliban have not commented on the incident.
