Daud Shah, the spouse of a former lawmaker Fariba Ahmadi Kakar was shot and killed Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in the southern city of Kandahar, local sources told Amu TV.
Shah had recently returned from Canada and was attacked in Kandahar’s first police district, the sources said.
Kakar, who lives in Canada, herself was kidnapped by the Taliban in Ghazni province in 2013 and held for 20 days before being released. She later resettled in Canada with her family.
The killing comes as a new United Nations report said safety and security incidents in Afghanistan rose 9 percent between May and July compared with the same period last year.
The Taliban have not publicly commented on the shooting.
