Two residents of Ghor province were shot dead by unidentified armed men in Taywara district, local sources told Amu TV.
The attack took place around 6 p.m. Saturday in the village of Sur, where three villagers were ambushed while collecting firewood in nearby hills. Two cousins, identified as Yousuf and Ghulam Rabbani, were killed, and a third man, Omid, was wounded, the sources said.
Local residents named the attackers as Ahmad and his two sons, Ramadan and Hayatullah. The suspects have reportedly been arrested and are being held at the Taliban police headquarters in Teywara.
Witnesses said the gunmen wore white clothing and carried Kalashnikov rifles.
The motive remains unclear. Taliban have not commented on the incident. Local sources, however, claimed the detained men are Taliban fighters.
The killings come amid a rise in reported targeted attacks against civilians and former security personnel since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
