A passenger bus veered off the Kabul–Kandahar highway and overturned on a rocky embankment late Tuesday, killing at least 26 people and injuring several others, local sources said.
The crash occurred in the Arghandi area outside Kabul as the bus was traveling from Kandahar to the capital.
Photos from the scene showed the badly mangled vehicle lying on its side as Taliban authorities and locals worked to recover bodies and assist the wounded.

Sources said the death toll could rise as some of the injured were in critical condition.
Deadly traffic accidents are common on Afghanistan’s highways, often caused by reckless driving, poor road conditions and lack of enforcement. Just last week, a separate crash in the western province of Herat killed 81 people.
