Uzbekistan’s foreign minister in Kabul for trilateral talks

Uzbekistan’s foreign minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, arrived in Kabul on Thursday afternoon at the head of a high-level delegation to participate in a trilateral meeting with officials from the Taliban and Pakistan.

In a statement, Taliban-run Arg palace said the talks are part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the three sides and will focus on expanding regional cooperation. Taliban chief minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund is expected to meet with Saidov during the visit.

The agenda includes discussions on strengthening bilateral ties, with particular emphasis on infrastructure and transit initiatives — including the proposed regional railway line through Afghanistan, which has drawn interest from both Uzbekistan and Pakistan as a potential trade corridor.

This meeting follows earlier trilateral sessions: the first held in Islamabad in 2023, followed by two more in May 2025 — one in Kabul and another in Beijing. The talks are part of a broader effort by regional powers to increase economic and logistical cooperation with Afghanistan, despite the lack of formal international recognition of the Taliban rule.
