Taliban member killed in Parwan in apparent case of mistaken identity

A Taliban member was killed and another injured in a shooting incident in Parwan Province, north of Kabul, in what Taliban described as a misunderstanding between local residents and their forces.

Fazl-ur-Rahim Maskinyar, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Parwan, said the incident occurred overnight in the Sorkh Parsa district. According to the statement, a Taliban unit from Paktika Province was operating in the area without prior coordination when they were mistaken for intruders by a local resident.

The resident, reportedly harboring a personal grudge and alarmed by the sight of armed men not wearing official Taliban uniforms, opened fire on the group, believing them to be thieves. One Taliban member was killed and another wounded in the exchange, Maskinyar said.

The shooters have been detained for investigation, according to Taliban officials, who emphasized that the incident was not related to broader security threats but stemmed from a “misinterpretation” by the local resident.

However, local sources in Parwan told Amu TV that recent incidents involving armed robberies and unmarked checkpoints have heightened public anxiety. Residents say that individuals posing as Taliban fighters have been establishing unauthorized roadblocks, fueling mistrust and concern in the province.
