Israel says it killed Iran’s newly appointed military chief in Tehran strike

The Israeli military said on Tuesday that it had killed Iran’s newly appointed wartime chief of staff, Ali Shadmani, in an overnight airstrike in Tehran, marking the second senior Iranian military figure reportedly targeted by Israel in less than a week.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said the strike was carried out by the Israeli Air Force based on “precise intelligence” and described the target as a “staffed command center in the heart of Tehran.” Iran has not confirmed the claim, and there was no immediate comment from Iranian officials.

Mr. Shadmani had assumed the post last Friday following the death of his predecessor, Lt. Gen. Gholam Ali Rashid, in an earlier Israeli strike. Both men were senior commanders at Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, a key coordination body between the country’s regular armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to the Israeli statement, Mr. Shadmani played a central role in shaping Iran’s military strategy and had “directly influenced Iran’s operational plans targeting the State of Israel.”
