Taliban have leased a popular recreation area in southeastern Khost Province to a private company, local sources familiar with the arrangement said on Tuesday.
The site, known as Adamamd, is located in the Tani district and has recently attracted increasing numbers of visitors. Local sources and residents said the lease was formalized through a contract signed by the Taliban-appointed governor of Khost and took effect on Tuesday. The initial term of the agreement is one month.
According to multiple sources in Khost, Taliban officials stated that the purpose of the lease is to improve services and amenities for visitors to the area. While full details of the contract have not been disclosed, the value of the lease is reported to be several hundred thousand Afghanis for the one-month period.
A spokesperson for the Taliban governor’s office confirmed the agreement but declined to share financial specifics.
Residents say that in recent weeks, the number of tourists visiting the Adamamd site has increased, but the lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure has drawn complaints. Taliban officials are reportedly considering similar arrangements for other mountainous recreational areas in the province.
This comes after Taliban leased another recreation area known as Zazi Park in the same province.
