Sources: Taliban detain two brothers of former security officer in Takhar

KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban intelligence forces detained two brothers of a former security official in the northeastern province of Takhar, local sources confirmed on Sunday.

The individuals — identified as Haroon and Baba Jan, brothers of Zia Khosrawi, a former director of internal security at the Takhar provincial police command — were taken from their home by Taliban intelligence agents, the sources told Amu TV.

According to the sources, the arrests followed a search of Khosrawi’s family compound, which Taliban forces reportedly carried out in an attempt to locate weapons.

The sources also said that during the operation, Taliban members damaged the property.

Taliban officials in Takhar have not publicly commented on the incident.

Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, human rights organizations have documented numerous reports of the detention of family members of former Afghan security forces and alleged human rights abuses against them.

Taliban have not responded to inquiries about this latest case.
