KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock on Wednesday signed a 10-year contract with a private company to operate the Rishkhor dairy plant in Kabul, the ministry announced in a statement.
According to the ministry, the facility has the capacity to process 100,000 liters of milk per day and will produce 12 types of dairy products.
The announcement comes amid growing frustration among Afghans over widespread poverty and unemployment since the Taliban’s return to power.
Many citizens say the economic initiatives launched over the past three years have been insufficient to address the country’s deepening financial crisis.
“We struggle to find even a day’s work,” said one Kabul resident. “Feeding our families has become a daily challenge.”
Despite the new investment in the dairy sector, Afghanistan’s broader economic challenges remain unresolved, with millions still struggling to afford basic necessities.
