At least two people were killed in an explosion in Kotal-e-Khairkhana area north of Kabul on Wednesday evening, a Taliban spokesman Khalid Zadran said.
Zadran added that the blast was due to the detonation of explosives carried in a Toyota Corolla vehicle that happened at around 5pm local time.
He said an investigation has started into the incident.
But sources said the explosion targeted a Taliban convoy that was returning from a ceremony in Bagram Airfield on the occasion of the first anniversary of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
Footage on social media shows a minibus has caught fire following the blast. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was carrying Taliban members.
