KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban’s head of the provincial hospital in Samangan was arrested on Saturday on charges of administrative corruption, according to local sources.
The official, Sayed Osman Hamidi, was taken into custody by Taliban security forces amid allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of authority, the sources said.
Taliban have not issued an official statement on the arrest, but individuals with knowledge of the matter confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The arrest comes amid growing public concerns over a lack of transparency and accountability in Taliban-run government institutions. Many citizens have voiced frustration over reports of corruption within the administration, even as the Taliban have sought to present itself as committed to law and order.
