Taliban arrest poet, cultural activist in Kabul, sources say

The Taliban’s intelligence forces have detained Alam Hashimi, a poet and cultural activist, in Kabul, sources told Amu TV.

According to his relatives, Hashimi was arrested around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Arya Township area of Kabul and taken to an unknown location. His family said they have received no information about his whereabouts since his detention.

Sources said Hashimi was born in Panjshir province and is known for his latest collection of poetry, Masoodnama, which chronicles Afghanistan’s history of resistance against oppression and foreign invasions.

Taliban have not commented on his arrest.
