‘Dozens’ of Afghan migrants arrested as Pakistan intensifies crackdown

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani authorities have continued detaining Afghan migrants, including women and children, as part of an ongoing crackdown, according to videos sent to Amu by migrants.

Migrants said that “dozens” of Afghan nationals were arrested by the Pakistani police on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Witnesses report that police rounded up women and girls from a market in Islamabad, further escalating concerns about the treatment of Afghan refugees in the country.

In another incident, Pakistani security forces conducted house-to-house searches, detaining more Afghan migrants.

Pakistan has recently intensified its efforts to detain and deport Afghan immigrants, leaving many in fear of arrest and displacement.
