Iranian, Pakistani officials discuss regional security, Afghanistan crisis

TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Amna Baloch in Tehran to discuss regional developments, including the situation in Afghanistan, according to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

The talks took place during Baloch’s visit to Iran for a meeting of deputy foreign ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the ministry said.

Among the key issues discussed were shared security concerns, including border security, drug trafficking, and irregular migration, the statement added. The two officials also exchanged views on broader regional developments, including the conflicts in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.

The meeting comes at a time of growing concern in both Iran and Pakistan over security threats stemming from Afghanistan, including militancy, drug smuggling, and migration.

Earlier, Araghchi had traveled to Kabul, where he met with Taliban officials to discuss Iran’s concerns and the nature of its engagement with the Taliban.
