Pakistan releases 91 Afghan migrants

The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees announced that at least 91 Afghan nationals have been released from prisons in Pakistan after being detained for lacking legal residency documents.

In a statement, the ministry said the individuals had returned to Afghanistan over the past two days after spending between two and 27 days in Pakistani custody.

According to data compiled by Amu from Taliban reports, a total of 179 Afghan nationals—including the most recently released detainees—have been freed from Pakistani prisons and repatriated since the beginning of the month.

Reports of Mistreatment in Pakistan and Iran

Meanwhile, Afghan migrants in Pakistan and Iran continue to report harsh treatment by authorities in both countries.

Pakistan has been forcibly deporting and detaining Afghan refugees for over a year, while Iran has escalated similar measures in recent months. Officials from both countries have cited the migrants’ lack of legal residency documents as the primary reason for arrests and deportations.

However, Afghan migrants have reported instances of mistreatment, including violence, humiliation, and torture at the hands of police in Pakistan and Iran.
