KABUL, Afghanistan — Gulbadin Naib, a member of Afghanistan’s national cricket team, was named the best player of the International T20 Cricket League.
Naib received a cash prize of $1,500 for his performance, but the star cricketer announced he would donate the award to the family of Alireza Asahi, a late member of Afghanistan’s national bodybuilding and fitness team.
Asahi, a two-time world bodybuilding champion, passed away last Thursday in Kabul following an illness. He was laid to rest in the Omid-e-Sabz township in western Kabul.
Asahi’s achievements brought pride to Afghanistan, with back-to-back gold medals in the Masters category at the World Bodybuilding Championships in 2023 and 2024.
