Eight people killed for alleged ties to Taliban’s armed opposition: Sources

KABUL, Afghanistan — Eight individuals arrested in various provinces, including Kabul, by the Taliban were “tortured and killed” on charges of collaborating with armed opposition groups, sources told Amu on Sunday.

According to the sources, the detainees were tortured before being shot. The identities of three victims have been confirmed, and one source provided an image showing signs of torture and gunshot wounds on the body of one victim. Images provided to Amu by the sources cannot be published due to their graphic content.

Two of the victims, Noor Rahman and Syed Akbar, were reportedly detained by Taliban intelligence in the Syed Khel district of Parwan Province. Another individual, Abdul Hakim, was arrested in the Shahr-e-Naw area of Kabul.

The sources added that five others were also detained and executed in a similar manner by the Taliban.

Sources said that on Sunday, Jan. 26, Taliban reportedly raided Abdul Hakim’s home during his funeral, prompting his family to flee to an undisclosed location out of fear for their safety. The sources said Hakim’s wife and children were relocated to avoid further Taliban harassment.

Taliban have not issued any statements regarding these allegations.

Previously, many UN reports have disclosed cases of extrajudicial killings of former government officials and armed forces by the Taliban after they took power in August 2021.
