KABUL, Afghanistan — The British chargé d’affaires for Afghanistan, Robert Chatterton Dickson, has called for resolving issues with the Taliban through dialogue, according to a statement released by the Taliban-run Arg.

During a meeting with Zakirullah Zakir, chief of staff for the Taliban’s political deputy office, Dickson reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. He also pledged support for addressing the country’s climate change challenges.

The statement quoted Dickson as emphasizing the importance of resolving problems through negotiations and encouraging Afghanistan to rejoin the international community.

In response, Zakir expressed the Taliban’s desire for “positive relations” with the international community, asserting that Afghan soil posed no threat to the world.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns among regional and international stakeholders over the potential use of Afghanistan as a base for terrorist organizations. While the Taliban have repeatedly denied these allegations, the issue remains a major point of contention between the group and the global community.

Despite ongoing engagement, no country, including the United Kingdom, has officially recognized the Taliban rule since it seized power in August 2021.
