BAMIYAN, Afghanistan — Heavy snowfall has blocked key routes connecting the central province of Bamiyan to Kabul and Daikundi, further isolating the mountainous region.
Saboor Farzan Saighani, the spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Bamiyan, said the Hajigak, Shato, and Qonaq passes have been rendered impassable due to the snowfall and accompanying storms.
“The severe weather conditions have disrupted transportation and communication between Bamiyan and neighboring provinces,” Saighani said, warning that additional routes could soon become inaccessible if the conditions persist.
The closures highlight the ongoing challenges of maintaining transportation infrastructure in Afghanistan’s remote regions during the winter months. Snowfall often isolates communities, complicating access to essential supplies and emergency services.
Taliban officials have not yet provided details on efforts to reopen the affected routes.
