DAIKUNDI, Afghanistan — Most roads connecting districts in Daikundi Province, as well as routes linking the province to neighboring areas, have been reopened after heavy snowfall temporarily blocked traffic, according to local sources.
However, the Nili-Ashtari road remains impassable, the sources said, adding that the contracting company responsible for maintaining the route is expected to clear it soon.
In the Nili-Qonak area, where snowfall reached 55 centimeters, roads have been reopened to traffic. Routes connecting Nili to Khadir and Kiti districts have also been cleared, despite snowfall accumulation of around 50 centimeters. The Nili-Shahristan and Nili-Pato routes have similarly been made accessible, the sources said.
Taliban officials in Daikundi have warned that the reopening of roads may be temporary, as storms and snow slides could render some routes impassable again.
The province’s Public Works Department, now operating under Taliban control, reported that 374 kilometers of roads are included in ongoing snow removal efforts. Of this total, 97 kilometers are being cleared using department machinery, while the remaining routes are being addressed by local crews.
