A collision on Sunday morning along the Dawlatabad highway in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab Province claimed the life of one person and left seven others injured, local sources said.

The accident involved two passenger vehicles and occurred in the early hours, though the precise circumstances remain under investigation. According to the sources, Taliban detained one of the drivers for questioning.

Traffic accidents have become alarmingly frequent in Afghanistan. Earlier this month, two devastating crashes along the Kabul-Kandahar highway killed more than 50 people in a matter of days.

The Taliban-led traffic department has attributed most incidents to driver negligence. However, residents have voiced growing frustration with the lack of properly maintained and standardized roads, which they say exacerbate the risks of travel.

As road conditions and enforcement of traffic regulations remain inconsistent, calls for infrastructure improvements and stricter oversight continue to mount.
