Iranian envoy briefs officials on mission in Afghanistan

TEHRAN — Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul, Alireza Bigdeli, met with senior Iranian officials to discuss recent developments in Afghanistan and bilateral relations with the neighboring country, according to a statement from the Iranian Embassy in Kabul.

In a meeting with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Bigdeli provided updates on his mission, emphasizing efforts to enhance cooperation and relations between the two nations.

Separately, during a meeting with Interior Minister Sikandar Momini, both sides stressed the importance of collaboration between the interior ministries of Iran and the Taliban, framing it within the broader context of “neighborly relations.”

Iran has maintained close ties with the Taliban, and the diplomatic missions of both countries remain operational.

Bigdeli, who was appointed last month through a directive issued by Foreign Minister Araghchi, succeeded Hassan Kazemi Qomi. Kazemi Qomi had previously served as Iran’s special envoy to Afghanistan, in addition to heading the diplomatic mission.
