KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Ministry of Transportation on Thursday suspended the operations of two transportation companies following two deadly traffic accidents in Ghazni province that left 52 people dead and 65 others wounded.
Both accidents involved passenger buses colliding with gas tankers, the first occurring in the Nani Bazar area and the second near the provincial capital on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The incidents have resulted in significant casualties, with women and children reported among the victims.
In response to the accidents, the Taliban-held ministry convened an emergency meeting to address the situation. Taliban officials decided to suspend the operations of the two companies involved pending further investigation.
A joint technical team has been dispatched to the accident sites to conduct detailed investigations and assessments, according to the ministry’s statement.
Independent sources have indicated that the death toll from the accidents is expected to rise, as many victims remain in critical condition.
Kabul’s Emergency Surgical Centre reported receiving 21 injured individuals from the crashes, several of whom are in deteriorating health.
