KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run Ministry of Urban Development and Housing on Tuesday announced plans to construct a “special housing complex” for foreign diplomats residing in Kabul.
In a statement, the ministry said it had completed the “topographic studies” for the proposed diplomatic housing project, which will be located in the Darul Aman area east of Kabul.
The complex, spanning 371.5 jeribs of land (approximately 74 hectares), is being developed at the request of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to accommodate foreign envoys in the Afghan capital.
The ministry has not provided further details about the housing complex. This comes as the Wazir Akbar Khan area in downtown Kabul houses diplomatic offices and international organizations. The US embassy under the previous government was also located in Wazir Akbar Khan.
