KHOST, Afghanistan — Hundreds of residents in Afghanistan’s Khost province, along with Taliban members, gathered on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in Syria.
The gathering took place in the southeastern city of Khost, marking the collapse of Assad’s regime after rebels captured Damascus earlier in the day.
The participants of the gathering chanted slogans in favor of rebels in Syria.
Many of them held Taliban and Syria flags.
The fall of Syria’s capital represents a seismic shift in the region, with implications reverberating far beyond the country’s borders.
