Zimbabwe adjusts schedule for Afghanistan cricket series to boost fan attendance

Zimbabwe has revised the schedule for its upcoming home cricket series against Afghanistan, moving key matches to weekends in an effort to attract larger crowds and create a vibrant atmosphere at the Harare Sports Club, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced.

The adjustments affect both the Twenty20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) fixtures. The T20I series, originally scheduled for December 9, 11, and 12, will now begin on Wednesday, December 11. The second and third matches are set for Friday, December 13, and Saturday, December 14.

The ODI series has also been reshuffled. The first match will now take place on Tuesday, December 17, with the subsequent games scheduled for Thursday, December 19, and Saturday, December 21. These matches were initially planned for December 15, 17, and 19.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni underscored the importance of fan engagement in the decision to modify the schedule.

“We understand the passion our fans have for the game, and we want to give as many people as possible the chance to experience top-level cricket,” Makoni said in a statement. “Moving key matches to the weekend ensures better access for spectators, enhancing the atmosphere at Harare Sports Club.”

The ICC had announced on October 29 that Afghanistan would tour Zimbabwe for a series spanning all three formats. The teams share an even record in Test cricket, with one win each from two matches. Afghanistan, however, holds a significant advantage in limited-overs formats, boasting 18 wins from 28 ODIs and a commanding 14-1 record in T20Is against Zimbabwe.
