Hekmat Khalil Karzai, Afghanistan’s former deputy foreign minister, in a meeting with envoys from several Western nations discussed ways for continued “engagement” with Afghanistan.
According to Karzai, envoys from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Finland attended the meeting, which was hosted by the British ambassador.
“We shared our perspectives on Afghanistan and explored areas for continued engagement,” Karzai wrote on X.
The meeting comes amid a recent surge in regional and international discussions about Afghanistan’s future.
On Sunday, Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, announced during a meeting with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi that a high-ranking Russian delegation would visit Afghanistan soon.
Similarly, China’s special envoy for Afghanistan met with Taliban officials in recent days to discuss bilateral cooperation.
These developments highlight the growing global efforts to address the challenges posed by Afghanistan under Taliban rule, particularly in terms of governance, security, and regional stability.
