Pakistan releases 11 Afghan nationals

The Taliban-run Afghanistan Consulate in Karachi has announced the release of 11 Afghan citizens, including seven children and one woman, from prisons in Pakistan’s Sindh province.

Abdul Jabbar Takhari, the Taliban’s Consul General in Karachi, said in a video statement that the individuals were freed on Friday and returned to Afghanistan via the Chaman–Spin Boldak border crossing.

According to the Taliban, 4,258 Afghan prisoners, including women and children, have previously been released from various prisons in Sindh province and transferred to Afghanistan. However, Takhari did not specify the timeframe for these releases or provide details about the reasons behind the arrests.

The issue of Afghan detainees in Pakistan has been a point of contention, with thousands of Afghan nationals arrested in recent months due to a crackdown on undocumented migrants. Human rights organizations have urged both nations to ensure humane treatment and due process for detainees, particularly vulnerable groups like women and children.
