At least six people, including women and children, were killed in a traffic accident on the Bazarak-Faizabad highway in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s Department of Security in Badakhshan, said the accident occurred when a vehicle, a Passo model car, veered off the road and plunged into a river in the Ab Afshak area.
The tragedy adds to a growing toll of road accidents in Afghanistan. Data compiled by Amu over the past three months indicates that nearly 120 people have died and more than 300 have been injured in traffic accidents across the country.
Observers attribute the rise in such incidents to deteriorating road conditions and driver negligence. Experts have called for urgent measures to improve infrastructure and enforce road safety regulations to prevent further loss of life.
