A gas cylinder explosion in the southeastern province of Ghazni on Saturday left one person dead and four others injured, according to Taliban officials.
The incident occurred in the Ghaib Qalandar area of Police District 5 in Ghazni City, as reported by the Taliban-run broadcaster, RTA. The victims were members of the same family, with the injured including two children and two women.
The explosion reportedly took place while the family was at a shop purchasing helium balloons. Authorities said the cylinder burst due to excessive heat.
The accident comes just a week after a fire at a gas company in Kabul’s Paghman District, which killed two people and injured 107, according to the Taliban-run National Disaster Management Authority. The agency stated that 81 of the injured sustained minor wounds.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the Kabul fire caused more than $1.2 million in financial losses to local businesses, merchants, and the gas company.
