Taliban commander in Badakhshan dies in traffic accident

A Taliban security commander in the Kesham district of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province was killed in a traffic accident on Saturday, according to local sources.

The crash occurred on the Kesham-Faizabad highway when the commander’s vehicle collided with a Mazda model car, the sources said. According to the sources, three guards of the Taliban commander were also killed in the accident.

Traffic accidents have become increasingly common in Afghanistan, where deteriorating road conditions are often cited as a contributing factor. The country’s infrastructure, weakened by decades of conflict, leaves many regions with limited access to safe roadways and emergency medical services.
