KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban publicly flogged a man and a woman in the northern province of Nangarhar on charges of adultery, the latest in a series of corporal punishments administered by the Taliban.

According to a statement from the Taliban-controlled Supreme Court, the two individuals were sentenced to public flogging by a court in Behsud District.

The man received 35 lashes, while the woman received 39. No further details were provided by the Taliban.

This incident follows a similar case on the same day when the Taliban publicly flogged a man in Ghazni Province for alleged extramarital relations.

In its latest quarterly report, the United Nations documented 111 public floggings carried out by the Taliban from July to September, with victims including 95 men, 15 women, and one girl.

The U.N. and human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the Taliban to end such punishments, which they say violate fundamental human rights standards.
