Uzbekistan appoints new ambassador to Afghanistan

Prior to this appointment, Usmanov served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Pakistan.

KABUL, Afghanistan — Oibek Usmanov has been appointed Uzbekistan’s new ambassador to Afghanistan.

Usmanov arrived in Kabul this week to assume his post, the Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency reported on Monday.

Prior to this appointment, Usmanov served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Pakistan.

A graduate of Tashkent State University’s Department of Philology and East Studies, he has been part of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1998, holding various roles both domestically and in international postings.

From 2011 to 2012, Usmanov also served as Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

His appointment marks a continuation of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan under the Taliban administration.
