Teenager dies in flooding in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan — A teenage boy was killed on Saturday in flash flooding that struck Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, according to local sources.

The flooding impacted the Kolhaqi area in Faizabad’s 10th district. The boy, identified as Abdul Samar, was swept away in the waters, sources reported.

Afghanistan ranks as the sixth most climate-vulnerable country in the world, according to the United Nations, facing a devastating combination of prolonged drought and frequent flooding that not only claims lives but also inflicts significant financial losses.
