TEHRAN — At least 10 Iranian military personnel were killed in an ambush in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchistan province, according to state media, in what officials are describing as a “terrorist act.”
The soldiers were reportedly dispatched to the Gawhar region to assist locals but were attacked on their return journey, Iranian police officials said. Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
The Iranian government announced that the attack is under investigation as security forces work to determine who was behind the violence. Sistan and Baluchistan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has seen repeated clashes in recent years, with tensions fueled by sectarian and ethnic strife as well as alleged insurgent activity.
