At least 40 residents of Kang district in Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan were arrested by the Taliban following a protest on Wednesday, local sources told Amu on Thursday.
The protest erupted after the Taliban allegedly raided a house in the village of Haji Aziz, which was reportedly occupied only by women and children, sources said.
The reason for the raid remains unclear, according to sources.
Of those detained, only two have been released, while at least 38 others remain in Taliban custody, sources added.
Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
