Qatari envoy discusses Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation with UN official

DOHA, Qatar — Qatar’s Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, met with Arafat Jamal, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Afghanistan, to discuss humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, according to a statement from Qatar’s foreign ministry.

The two officials reviewed the latest developments in Afghanistan and explored avenues for cooperation in humanitarian efforts. They also exchanged views on promoting peace and stability in the country, the statement said.

This meeting follows recent remarks by Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who, during a meeting in Rome with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to the Doha Process on Afghanistan.

Qatar has hosted two rounds of the Doha Process, a UN-led initiative aimed at fostering international cooperation to address the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. The process is part of a broader effort by the UN to seek a solution to the country’s humanitarian and political challenges.
