KABUL, Afghanistan — Jawed Kohistani, a prominent political analyst, has been released from Taliban detention after nearly 20 days, according to his family.
Kohistani was freed on Tuesday evening, his relatives confirmed to Amu.
Kohistani was initially detained by Taliban intelligence officials on September 26 in Kabul.
After the fall of Afghanistan’s previous government, he had lived abroad for a period before returning to Kabul under the Taliban’s general amnesty announcement.
Before the Taliban’s return to power, Kohistani was an outspoken commentator on political and military issues, frequently appearing in the media. He was known for his critical views on Taliban policies, which he expressed publicly on multiple occasions.
