The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has appealed to the international community to increase its support for Afghanistan, citing the vulnerability of the country’s population to natural disasters.

In a statement released in observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNAMA highlighted the severe toll that recurring natural disasters, exacerbated by climate change, have taken on communities across Afghanistan.

“On this International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we call for greater international assistance to bolster Afghanistan’s resilience and recovery efforts,” the organization stated.

The observance, marked on October 13 is being held under the theme “Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future.”
