French anti-terror prosecutors announced that a 22-year-old Afghan national is under investigation on terrorism charges, suspected of plotting an attack in the Toulouse region, according to multiple reports.
The suspect was among three individuals detained earlier in the week; however, the other two were released from custody, the Associated Press reported.
The investigation, which began on September 27, uncovered evidence of a potential plan to carry out violent acts targeting a football stadium or a shopping center.
Authorities indicated that they found “several elements” suggesting the suspect’s radicalization and alleged links to the ideology of the Islamic State group.
