HERAT, Afghanistan — At least three people were killed and one was injured in a traffic accident on Friday along the Herat-Islam Qala highway, local Taliban officials said.
The accident occurred when a taxi carrying passengers returning from Mashhad, Iran, overturned. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Traffic accidents in Afghanistan have become increasingly common. Over the past two months, at least 120 people have died and dozens more have been injured in various incidents across the country, according to reports.
Deteriorating road conditions and driver negligence are often cited as major contributing factors to these accidents.
