BEIRUT — Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, which were carried out to target Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, have left behind widespread destruction, with several buildings reduced to rubble and debris scattered across the city.
One building was completely leveled in the strike, causing extensive damage to both infrastructure and residential areas.
The Israeli military described the operation as a “precision strike” on Hezbollah’s headquarters, which they claimed was hidden beneath residential buildings in the heart of Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh.
A source close to Hezbollah told Reuters that Nasrallah, the group’s secretary-general, is alive. Iran’s Tasnim news agency also reported that Nasrallah is in good health, while a senior Iranian security official confirmed to Reuters that Tehran is closely monitoring his condition.
Friday’s attack was significantly more intense than previous strikes, with multiple explosions shattering windows across the city. The assault echoed the air raids of Israel’s 2006 war with Hezbollah, reviving painful memories of that conflict.
