Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) during a meeting with top technology and pharmaceutical executives in New York on Sunday.
“Our policy on semiconductors and chips has been well-received, and those involved in this sector are eager to invest in India. We are fully prepared with the necessary infrastructure to support such investments,” Modi said.
Modi met with 15 chief executives, including Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Moderna Co-founder and Chairman Noubar Afeyan, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. After the meeting, the business leaders expressed optimism about partnering with India and praised Modi’s “Make in India” initiative.
Pichai noted that Google is “robustly investing in AI in India” and collaborating with several government ministries. HP CEO Enrique Lores added, “We clearly appreciate the prime minister’s efforts to understand our needs and to help us continue expanding in India.”
