Pakistani special envoy for Afghanistan dismissed: Reports

Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, has been removed from his position, according to a report by Pakistan Daily.

According to Pakistan Daily, the country’s Foreign Ministry issued a letter on Friday announcing Durrani’s dismissal, though no reason has been provided for his removal.

Citing unnamed sources, the report also noted that Durrani has returned to his research work at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, a think tank based in the capital.

Durrani had been appointed as the special envoy for Afghan affairs in May of last year, succeeding Mohammad Sadiq, who resigned after nearly three years in the role.

As of now, Durrani has not commented publicly on his dismissal. His tenure came at a time of heightened tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with key issues including border security and relations with the Taliban government in Kabul.
