Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan, hosted a meeting on Tuesday with Iranian officials to discuss the country’s new plan for managing refugees and migrants, including Afghan nationals residing in Iran.
According to Iranian media reports, the meeting focused on the details of a plan to organize foreign nationals. This initiative covers a range of issues, including the status of refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and those with residence permits for education, employment, and investment.
The plan aims to implement practical and coordinated measures to address the presence of foreign nationals in the country, with a particular focus on Afghan citizens. The discussion also explored the necessary mechanisms for dealing with various aspects of this issue.
A key topic of the meeting was how to collaborate with international organizations and United Nations agencies to fulfill commitments and provide international aid to the displaced population. This issue was highlighted as a priority in the comprehensive plan.
Another significant focus of the meeting was finding solutions for foreign nationals whose residency status remains uncertain, particularly in areas such as education, employment, and investment.
The meeting also included discussions on ensuring guarantees and necessary facilities for Afghan nationals who wish to return to their country, including securing their children’s future, creating job opportunities, and providing safety.
According to Iranian media, it was decided during the meeting to initiate new high-level consultations with Taliban officials in Afghanistan to inform them of Iran’s intentions and readiness in this matter.
