Turkmenistan signs bilateral agreements with Taliban on energy, transport projects

The government of Turkmenistan signed bilateral agreements with the Taliban to advance joint projects in the energy and transport sectors, according to a statement from Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry.

The agreements were finalized during a meeting in Ashgabat between delegations from Turkmenistan and the Taliban, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

On Wednesday, Hidayatullah Badri, the Taliban’s Minister of Mines and Petroleum, who is under United Nations sanctions, traveled from Kabul to Turkmenistan for the discussions. The Turkmen delegation included high-ranking officials, including Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and heads of various ministries and departments.

The Taliban’s international engagements have drawn criticism from human rights activists, who have expressed concerns over the Taliban officials’ foreign visits despite their inclusion on the UN travel ban list.
