Dogharoon fire destroys 80% of Afghan traders’ oil reserves

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment has reported that a fire at the Dogharoon oil storage facility, located near the Iran-Afghanistan border, has destroyed 80 percent of oil reserves belonging to Afghan traders.

Reza Abbasi Nishabouri, head of the General Directorate of Crisis Management for Khorasan Razavi, Iran, confirmed that a large fire broke out at the Dogharoon customs facility on Monday, August 5. Iranian media reported that the fire occurred when three oil tankers, owned by traders from Afghanistan and Iran, caught fire.

Local Iranian officials attributed the fire to negligence and a failure to follow safety protocols by the drivers.

Following the incident, the Dogharoon customs facility was closed, according to Iranian media reports.

The Dogharoon border, with a history of about 100 years, is one of the most significant trade and exchange points between Iran and Afghanistan.
