Taliban execute three former soldiers in Ghor: Sources

GHOR, Afghanistan — Taliban members executed three former soldiers in Ghor Province in central Afghanistan, sources confirmed to Amu on Monday.

The three brothers, previously members of the local police under the former government, were shot in Murghab district, sources added.

In a press release issued Sunday, the Taliban governor’s office in Ghor stated that the three men, described as “troublemakers and Khawarij,” were killed while allegedly trying to flee after murdering a Taliban member. Taliban often refer to Daesh members as Khawarij.

Eyewitnesses report that the brothers were executed in front of the public in the village of Sarjangal.

According to the Taliban, the brothers had fled after killing one of their members. They were reportedly apprehended and shot while attempting to escape custody in Murghab district.

Multiple United Nations reports have documented extrajudicial killings, detentions, and torture of former military personnel by the Taliban over the past three years.
